Boyd & Jenerette is pleased to welcome Attorneys Jennifer Kerwin, J.P. Numa, and Maxim Genel to the firm.

Jennifer P. Kerwin is a senior associate working remotely out of Melbourne, Florida.  She is a seasoned trial lawyer with extensive jury trial experience in both the civil and criminal arenas.  Jennifer focuses her practice on insurance coverage and bad faith litigation.  Jennifer has experience in litigation with first and third-party issues on behalf of insurance companies nationwide.  Prior to joining the firm, Jennifer handled a plethora of insurance defense matters both as staff counsel for a Fortune 100 insurance company as well as retained counsel for a large insurance defense firm.

Jennifer began her career as an Assistant Public Defender handling complex felony litigation including DUI manslaughter, cases of sexual violence, Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO), homicides, and vehicular homicides.  While defending these intricate matters, Jennifer became well-versed in Daubert challenges, expert witness retention, and detailed motions in limine.  Jennifer also gained appellate experience through the filing of appellate briefs with Florida’s District Courts of Appeal.  

Jennifer earned a Bachelor of Science from Florida State University graduating magna cum laude in 2009.  She also obtained her juris doctor from the University of Florida Levin College of Law (2012).  While in law school, Jennifer served as a teacher’s assistant for appellate advocacy and legal research and writing.  She served as the Intramural Chair of the University of Florida’s Moot Court Program, which is nationally ranked within the top forty law schools.  As Intramural Chair, Jennifer was responsible for drafting the problem the students used to compete for a limited spot in the program as well as serving as the face of the program for Moot Court applicants.  Jennifer also earned the highest recognition available for outstanding community service by spending her time tutoring a young girl from an underprivileged community.  

Jennifer is admitted to practice in Florida (2012).   

Outside of work, Jennifer serves as the Treasurer of the Brevard County Association for Women Lawyers.  She enjoys spending time with her husband, Mike, and her dog, Jellybean.  She and Mike love to travel the world in their spare time.

J.P. Numa began her legal career as an Assistant State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit in Orange and Osceola Counties. In her role as a prosecutor, she gained trial and litigation experience. Prior to joining Boyd & Jenerette P.A., Ms. Numa was an in-house trial counsel with a global insurance company defending bodily injury, UM/UIM and premise liability claims. Ms. Numa also previously practiced at a national insurance defense firm handling trucking and auto negligence, construction and premise liability for insurance companies, commercial and retail clients. She also specializes in Personal Injury Protection (PIP) litigation.

Ms. Numa will earn her Masters of Laws, an LL.M. in Health Law and Compliance in December of 2022 from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law. She earned her Juris Doctor Degree from Florida A&M University College of Law in 2016. While in law school, Ms. Numa was an editor of the Florida A&M Law Review, LexisNexis representative, held offices in multiple organizations and clerked for a major insurance company. She was a recipient of the Book Award for Federal Civil Procedure, Dean’s List Award, and worked with the Homelessness Advocacy Legal Clinic handling cases in family law and guardian ad litem.

Prior to completing her undergraduate studies, Ms. Numa was a trained medical insurance biller for seven years. She handled complex medical billing appeals against healthcare insurance companies. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Central Florida, graduating with a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Political Science. Prior to entering law school, Ms. Numa was a Congressional Intern for the U.S. House of Representatives (Florida-09). She also worked as a legal intern for a personal injury litigation firm.

Ms. Numa is a member of the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) and the Central Florida Association for Women Lawyers (CFAWL). She is admitted to practice in Florida and in Federal Court for the Middle District of FL.

J.P. lives in Minneola, FL located in Lake County with her husband and daughter. Their adult son is a musician living in Atlanta, GA. She enjoys spending time with her extended families that also reside in Minneola.

Maxim Genel is an associate attorney at Boyd & Jenerette, P.A., practicing in the Boca Raton office. Mr. Genel practices in the firm’s Construction Law Group. Mr. Genel handles complex construction disputes involving construction defects, delay claims, contract disputes, arbitrations, and other complex construction related issues. Prior to joining Boyd & Jenerette P.A., Mr. Genel worked in property management where he gained firsthand experience managing construction related to major renovations of projects ranging from single-family homes to multi-story apartment complexes. Mr. Genel worked as a law clerk for Judge Carolyn E. Wright in New Jersey Superior Court, Essex County, giving him invaluable exposure to the inner workings of the Court systems.

Mr. Genel received his Bachelor of Arts and Sciences from Rutgers University and his Juris Doctor from Rutgers School of Law, where he made Deans List for his academic achievements and was awarded best closing argument in the Judith S. Kaye Arbitration Competition.
