Boyd & Jenerette congratulates Kansas R. Gooden for receiving the James A. Dixon Young Lawyer of the Year Award from the Florida Defense Lawyers Association (“FDLA”). The award is given annually to a young lawyer who exceeds the standards of excellence, dedication and commitment to the FDLA and its goals. The award was established in 1998 in honor of the first FDLA Executive Director, James A. Dixon.
The award was presented during the FDLA’s Annual Convention on September 30, 2017. Kansas currently serves on the Board of Directors as the First District Representative. She is also the Chair of the Amicus Committee. In this role, she coordinates and files amicus curiae briefs in cases that present issues of extraordinary importance to civil defense lawyers, their clients, and the civil justice system.
Kansas is a Board Certified in Appellate Practice by The Florida Bar, and is the practice group leader of Boyd & Jenerette’s appellate department. She handles all types of appellate matters and extraordinary proceedings and provides litigation and trial support to trial attorneys across the state. Kansas has been selected by Super Lawyers Magazine as a Rising Star in Appellate Practice every year since 2011. She also serves on the Executive Council of the Florida Bar’s Appellate Section and on the Florida Bar’s Appellate Board Certification Committee.
