On April 26 & 27, 2012 Boyd & Jenerette Partners, Ronald Neiwirth (A Florida Civil-Law Notary and head of the Insolvency & Reorganization practice), and Carlos Aguilar (head of the International practice), participated in the North American Notarial Forum, held at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Florida. Mr. Neiwirth is a director of the National Association of Civil Law Notaries (“NACLN”). He has been a Florida Civil-Law Notary since the specialty was first created by Statute in 1999. Mr. Neiwirth presented on Civil-Law Notarial Ethics, comparing ethical regulation of Florida lawyers serving as Civil-Law Notaries, with the ethical standards established by the Union Internationale du Notariat (“UIN”). He also participated on a panel discussion of Notarial ethics with eminent notaries from other countries.
Also in attendance were Florida’s Secretary of State, Ken Detzner; the President of the UIN, representing 81 countries which utilize civil-law notaries; as well as a number of other prominent notaries from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Morocco, Argentina, France, and Quebec.
The Civil-Law Notary is, generally speaking, a highly-trained attorney who is able to authenticate and certify documents and facts, as well as prepare transactional documentation, which will be generally accepted in other countries which utilize the Civil-Law Notarial concept.
