Attorney Spotlight: Lía N. Sibrian

In our latest attorney spotlight, we introduce Lía N. Sibrian, an associate attorney at Boyd & Jenerette. Ms. Sibrian focuses her practice in construction law.

In this attorney spotlight article, we will delve into Lía's background, experience, and unique work approach, exploring the remarkable qualities that set her apart from her peers within the legal profession.

Can you tell us about your background and how you made the decision to go to law school?

  • I have always been fascinated with how civilization works and what keeps civilization intact.  This curiosity made me excel in high school, specifically in US Government and History.  As a result, I studied political science and philosophy in my undergraduate studies.  Political science gave me a general understanding of the functionalities of American politics, and philosophy taught me about epistemology and gave me the framework for how to think rationally.

What is your role as an attorney at Boyd & Jenerette?

  • Collaborate with all invested stakeholders to find a resolution.

What is your day-to-day job like, and what kinds of long-term projects are on your plate?

  • My day-to-day tasks can appear as though I am in the weeds, shuffling through discovery matters.  Most cases I am involved in are complex with about 20+ parties participating in any given suit.  With so many parties participating, litigation can be slower than two-party cases.  Most complex cases are in suit for two to four years, so it is imperative that one does not lose sight of what he or she is doing and track cases closely.

What is the most challenging aspect of your job?

  • In complex litigation, figuring out who is who and what is and is not relevant.  Keeping track of all information because one may be called upon to regurgitate it at any given moment. Performing legal work is comparable to playing Sudoku.

What do you enjoy most about practicing law at Boyd & Jenerette?

  • Attorneys at Boyd & Jenerette are sophisticated.

When did you begin practicing law?

  • I began practicing law in 2020.

What do you do for fun?

  • Religiously swim, salsa dance, run, and go to the gym.

When did you decide you wanted to be a lawyer?

  • Officially made the leap Fall 2014 after having worked in urban planning and development matters in a municipality.

What is an item on your bucket list?

  • At some point, I want to own a pink sports car.

Do you have any hidden talents, hobbies, or a fun fact?

  • Swimming. I’ve been swimming since the age of 6 competitively.

What are you most proud of, professionally and/or personally?

  • Graduating law school is a core memory.

Who has been your biggest mentor?

  • My mother and brother.

If you could tell a younger version of yourself something knowing what you know now, what would it be?

  • Don’t stress.
  • “There is only one way to eat an elephant: a bite at a time.”
  • The hardest thing you have to do is sit down and put in the work.
  • “Wax on, wax off.” – Kesuke Miyagi from Karate Kid
  • Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

What are your goals for the next year?

  • Continue to add value to the team.
  • Learn more about the construction sector so that we can obtain favorable results.

About Lía N. Sibrian

Lía N. Sibrian, a Los Angeles native, initially became involved in capital improvement and repair projects in 2014 when she worked for the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (“HACLA”), one of the nation’s largest public housing authorities with a citywide portfolio of approximately 9,355 household units. Over at HACLA, Lía helped maintain the inventory levels of affordable housing by collaboratively working alongside project managers, architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and professionals at the Los Angeles Building and Safety Department to ensure that construction projects were fully complied with and timely completed.

In 2016, Lía moved to Orlando, Florida. Since her time in Florida, Lía has passionately continued to dedicate her time and efforts in helping community residents. While in law school, for example, she helped maintain the integrity and value of several home and condominium community associations throughout Central Florida by enforcing community association codes and advising community associations on any Florida Building Code violations. She also assisted in the urban planning and development matters of Seminole County when she was a legal extern at the Seminole County Attorney’s Office. Additionally, Lía also has experience with property damage claims. When homes were affected by severe storms and/or hurricanes, she helped homeowners bring back their home to its pre-loss condition. Lía’s extensive experience in construction law renders her uniquely qualified to handle any construction issues encountered by her clients.

When Lía is not helping others, you can find her swimming away with her Masters Swim Team at a local YMCA or can find her dancing away in her salsa dance class as she hones in on her advanced skills. She’s also a World Cup fanatic.
