In this attorney spotlight article, we will delve into Brooke's exceptional background, extensive experience, and unique work approach, exploring the remarkable qualities that set her apart from her peers within the legal profession.
Can you tell us about your background and how you made the decision to go to law school?
- Growing up, I was a very curious and inquisitive kid. I loved Nancy Drew books, mystery movies, and politics. To that end, I thought going to law school would be the perfect way to become more informed about the government while also starting a career using my investigative spirit.
What is your role as an attorney at Boyd & Jenerette?
- I am an associate attorney focusing primarily on insurance defense litigation.
What is your day-to-day job like, and what kinds of long-term projects are on your plate?
- Day-to-day, I represent people and corporations who have been sued due to motor vehicle accidents, property disputes, or other accidents involving personal injuries.
What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
- As a law student or recently admitted attorney, it’s easy to assume that your time learning the law is done when you pass the bar exam. It can be quite challenging when there are widespread legal changes, such as tort reform, that largely alter the way lawsuits are handled. It’s often challenging to make sure that you are continually knowledgeable about legal changes and case law updates in all areas of law.
What do you enjoy most about practicing law at Boyd & Jenerette?
- We often represent individuals who have never been involved in litigation before. Every aspect of the lawsuit can seem stressful, even when it’s a routine activity for the attorney. I enjoy educating clients about the lifecycle of a lawsuit and helping them understand how litigation will proceed. It’s very rewarding to ease the stress of a client who is going through their first lawsuit.
When did you begin practicing law?
- 2019.
What do you do for fun?
- I’m currently reading each John Grisham novel that has been turned into a movie, then having a movie night to celebrate finishing each book. I’m also an avid golfer and love walking my dog, Griffin, around downtown Pensacola.
When did you decide you wanted to be a lawyer?
- I’ve known from a very young age that I wanted to be a lawyer. I’ve always been passionate about helping others.
What is an item on your bucket list?
- I’m a big foodie, so I have a long restaurant bucket list. Rao’s in New York City is at the top of the list.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
- I have always wanted to be an attorney.
Do you have any hidden talents, hobbies, or a fun fact?
- In my spare time, I serve as legal counsel for Keep Pensacola Beautiful. I love living in Northwest Florida and contributing to our local community in this way. Pensacola is such a unique place with many local events and tourists. KPB educates the community on sustainability but also provides clean-up services to maintain Pensacola’s parks and beaches.
What are you most proud of, professionally and/or personally?
- This upcoming year, I will serve as President of the Escambia-Santa Rosa Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. I feel honored to be in this position because I am passionate about integrating young lawyers into the community and helping new attorneys to build professional relationships with their peers.
If you could tell a younger version of yourself something knowing what you know now, what would it be?
- Every failure is a lesson, and every rejection leaves an opening for a better opportunity.
What are your goals for the next year?
- I would love to get more trial experience and to be published in a legal journal.
